It's increasingly common for modern households to have multiple Roku devices. You might have a TCL Roku TV in the living room, a Streaming Stick in the bedroom, and a Soundbar in the den.
Controlling all of these from a single app is incredibly convenient, but if left unmanaged, it can also lead to confusion. Ever tried to pause a movie, only to accidentally turn off your partner's TV downstairs? Here's how to manage multi-device setups efficiently.
Device Discovery in QuickRemote
QuickRemote for Roku uses standard network SSDP (Simple Service Discovery Protocol) to find devices. When you click "Scan" on your PC, it pings the local subnet and returns a list of every active Roku device it finds.
However, by default, many Roku devices have identical factory names like "Roku Streaming Stick+", which makes it impossible to know which one to select.
Renaming Devices for Clarity
To keep things organized, take five minutes to properly name your devices based on their location.
- Grab a computer or phone and go to my.roku.com.
- Sign in to your Roku account.
- Scroll down to the My linked devices list.
- Click the Rename link next to each device.
- Change the names to something descriptive (e.g., "Living Room TV", "Kitchen Stick", "Guest Bedroom").
Once you've done this, the new names will automatically propagate. When you open QuickRemote on your PC, you will clearly see exactly which TV you are taking control of.
Seamless Switching
If you're using QuickRemote, jumping between TVs takes a single click from the device dropdown. Whether you're working in the office and want to adjust the volume in the living room, or you want to launch a news app in the kitchen, your PC becomes the master command center for the entire home.
